Project Higher EducationStreamline Miami Foundation - Project Higher Education
College Readiness: Miami, these are our children. Every child deserves access to quality education. For this reason, Streamline Miami is focused on the theme of "College Readiness." The majority of urban students are minorities and usually on free or reduced lunch, which is a standard measure for childhood poverty. While some of them have supportive parents at home, very few of them have family members who graduated from college. According to research done by the Pew Research Center, in 2012 only 50.9% of low-income high school graduates enrolled in a 2-4 year college, this puts them at a particular disadvantage compared to higher income peers, who are exposed to the idea of college from an early age. Early exposure to the idea of college attendance is critical. Urban teachers and students need your help! Most urban students, come from low income households, but they are SO much more than these statistics. Help us break the social and economic barriers that face these wonderful kids by donating to Project Higher Education! Streamline Miami's goal is to raise $75,000, where the funds received will go directly to exposing students to higher education and purchasing needed classroom resources. Last school year, Streamline Miami was able to take urban students to the University of Miami for exciting field trips exposing them to careers in science, technology, engineering, art and math. The goal for this coming school year is to continue this theme and add excursions to museums and other enriching events. Please assist Streamline Miami Foundation in reaching this goal by donating to today. Please view our Volunteer page and see how to impact students become a volunteer at an urban public school in need. |
